Experimental Glaze Series
Through my dissertation research into biomorphism, I explored how humans experience measurable psychological and emotional benefits not only from direct contact with nature, but also from exposure to nature-inspired patterns, colours, and textures. This research became the foundation of this glaze series.
Each piece begins with a hand-thrown vessel, carefully shaped and refined. A nature-inspired glaze design is then applied, but the final appearance is not fully controlled. During firing, the kiln takes over — heat, chemistry, and movement cause the glazes to react, flow, and transform through natural chemical changes. The kiln completes the work, creating surfaces and colours that echo organic processes found in the natural world.
When a glaze shifts, moves, or emerges unexpectedly, it’s embraced as part of the process. These moments reflect the unpredictability of nature itself, ensuring that every pot is a unique, unrepeatable object.
