Porcelain Casts

This project marked one of my first explorations in ceramics, before I’d properly learned how to throw. I was curious about slip casting, so I taught myself how to make a plaster mold and began experimenting. I started by throwing a moon jar-inspired form — a bit wobbly, but full of character — and used it as the base for my mold. From there, I created a series of slip casts using stained porcelain, playing with swirling colours and marbled patterns.

Alongside the cast pieces, I also made two sculptural forms by hand-coiling. These were designed as ceramic lampshades — each sculpted to sit over a lightbulb, with carved openings to let the light peek through. I finished them with marbled underglaze, applied using foam for added texture and softness. This project was a hands-on journey into process, material, and playful experimentation — a mix of function, form, and learning as I went.
